The Macao government will require the use of China UnionPay (CUP) cards to carry out facial recognition and identification check. The Macao government said the move was aimed at tackling the problems of money laundering and terrorism financing of Macao.

The Macao government announced on the Internet that the above requirements would be implemented in phases in all ATM machines in Macao and applied to bank cards from mainland China. The Macao government does not provide a timetable.
