CANADA: Court hears challenge to British Columbia's property tax on foreign nationals
A British Columbian court has begun hearing a Chinese national's challenge to the 15 per cent tax on foreigners who buy property in the Greater Vancouver area. The tax was introduced in August 2016, forcing Jing Li to pay a CAD84,000 tax surcharge on the home she bought in BC. There is a lot at stake for both sides, especially as the tax is about to be increased to 20 per cent, and the case is likely to make its way up to the Supreme Court of Canada....
