As Covid-19 cases spike, more individuals are asked to quarantine, causing panic amongst the public as many worry for their livelihood. In response, the following guide answers the seven most common questions encountered when applying for epidemic compensation as well as labor insurance injury and illness benefits.
1. Who is eligible for labor insurance injury and illness benefits?
If one with labor insurance is tested positive for Covid-19 and is unable to receive original pay due to such circumstances, he/she can request for labor insurance benefits starting from the fourth day of quarantine regardless of homecare or being sent for collective quarantine, quarantine hotel and hospital.
2. How much does labor insurance illness & injury benefits cover?
Taking the highest insured amount of labor & general accident insurance of NT$45,800 as an example, one can receive NT$5,343 of insurance benefits from a 10-day homecare period.
3. If I was infected at work, can I receive injury & illness benefits?
According to the Labor Occupational Accident Insurance and Protection Act, workers who are infected are eligible to apply for occupational injury and illness benefits. The upper limit for occupational injury & illness benefits is NT$72,800. Based on a 10 day homecare period, one may receive NT$16,897.
4. Am I eligible for compensation for epidemic prevention?
Those who are under home quarantine (including caregivers) are eligible for epidemic compensation.
5. Are those tested positive for Covid-19 eligible for epidemic compensation?
According to regulations, those tested positive for Covid-19 may not receive epidemic compensation. However, if one is in quarantine, one is eligible to apply for epidemic compensation during their quarantine period. Those who test positive later will receive labor insurance illness & injury benefits from the fourth day after tested positive. These two do not conflict.
6. How much does epidemic compensation cover?
Epidemic compensation covers NT$1,000 per day, the total compensation value varies depending on the date recorded on the quarantine notice.
7. How does compensation apply for the new 3+4 home quarantine policy?
According to the new 3+4 home quarantine policy, one must stay at home for the first three days, and self-prevent for the following four days. Hence, one may only receive epidemic compensation for the first three days.
